Chapter One: ‘It’ Escapes

Grumbling he walked to the door only stopping for a second to put his boots on before opening the passageway to the outside. On the side of his house had egg smeared on it, the heat that day did not help as it quickly made the egg smell. Laughter drifted to his ears as he noticed two kids running away an egg carton in their hands, shaking his head he cleaned his siding with the hose his eyes half closed. Suddenly something landed on his shoulder making him turn the hose still on back to look who touched him.

“Hey watch it Levi!” A rough voice said with a bark sounding at the same time as a boy with dark brown hair jumped back just barley avoiding the water.

“Sorry Josh, Fuji. You know not to sneak up on me, but yet you always do somehow.” Levi responded as he turned off the hose before lowering himself to the bench in his yard.

“Sorry about that, I always forget.” The other said as a small tan dog jumps onto the blonds lap laying down as he petted it.

“I take it you have a reason being her so early, let’s hear it already.” The blond said his voice sounding worn out.

“Yea, you might not know this but people are talking about you. They say that you are a part of those horrible tests going on inside the old asylum, it’s not true is it what they say?” The dark brown boy asked his two-toned green eyes looking the other over a grin on his face.

“Do you really want to know Josh?” was his only reply after a long time of silence and with those few words the air seemed to grow thick with tension.

“Of course I do! We have been friends since I met you in the therapy center Levi, I think this needs to be set right it it’s not true!” The younger boy said his voice rising as he spoke his hands flying with his words showing how much he meant them.

“You’re such an open book Josh, fine I will tell you just quite down some ok?” The older man sighs as he leans back, after seeing the latter nod he closed his eyes.

“It’s 50/50 truth Josh, I personally am not a part of the test that they are doing. But I do know about them somewhat though we are forbidden to tell the full information to none employees of the asylum.” Levi started only to pulse and glance at his watch slowly standing so that the dog could move.

“I have to head in there now so I can’t say much more, but just remember this if something goes wrong I shall come tell you and then we must hide until we know it is safe.” He finished leaving Josh with a puzzled look as he turned on his heels and headed toward the old asylum.

Something seemed off that evening when he went to clock in the warden was not at the sign in meaning either something bad had happened or that it was one of the ever more frequent donation days. Thinking the latter Levi strode though the corridors, it was eerily quite but it was an asylum so it was kind of normal these days since it was not used for what it was build to do. No now the research and development team of SoGS or the Servants of Government Safety bought the building they used it for their DNA research much to the towns dismay.

It has been three weeks now since they hired him as a guard for the experiments claming that someone might try to steal them when the most of the staff left at night, at the time he thought nothing of it clearly just going with the words they used to justify hiring him but now after being here things where different. Screams, he heard them almost every night here it did not wonder him why he had nightmares so much now, being here dealing with the screams it had brought back the memories of the time of his accident.

He continued doing his rounds of the halls his eyes scanning around as his mind wondered in past thoughts, it was not until a bad smell filled his nose that he stopped. Hands slowly moving to the machete at his side he moved toward the smell, his arms started shaking as the sick iron tang of blood got stronger. It was not until he entered the doorway shinning his flashlight in that he saw something he feared, he was wrong before it was not a donation night where they worked for free it was the previous. Someone or something had escaped inside the building killing the people as it searched for a way out in to the world.

Levi froze he could feel something watching him from the darkness of the room after a quick thought he kept his flashlight on the blooded body of the dead worker, his eyes scanning the room trying to make out anything in the darkness. It was then that a low rumbling growl was picked up by his ears at the same time his eyes locked onto the glowing purple hues. Levi took a deep breath pushing down the fear he felt as he slowly stood hoping the killer would not approach or try to attack him, sadly he was wrong.

Having no more then stood straight the killer jumped at him, it landed over the man’s body it’s form now visible by the flashlight. It took all Levi had not to scream even being a man from war this monster scared him, it’s long black pelted body with matching long yellowed fangs it’s eyes locked on him as he slowly backed away.

I have to get out of here, it’s just like my dream! It’s escaped the Horrible Secret. he thought as he looked down the hall he had just walked up trying to remember the right halls to take.

His cowboy boots squeaked on the tile floor as he turned racing down the halls toward what he hoped out be the exit, not knowing if anyone else had lived and not having the time to go looking for them he got to the entrance. Hopping over the low table where the check in cards lay he raced out the building only to pause outside and slam his fist onto a bottom, as he hopped a thick iron fence dropped down blocking the passage. He remembered being told that this fence could hold back a stampeding horse only giving slightly to stop the animal from getting hurt, though he feared the monster would not be held back so with out waiting to find out he raced down the pathway into town.
